Once your mind stretches to a new level, it never goes back to it's original dimension.

- Abdul Kalam

(Final Composition)

PROCESS:

Struggles faced:

There were several struggles I faced throughout the entire process. Some of these were as follows:

  • I faced great difficulty in coming up with ideas during the earlier stages. Even though I did manage to come up with 3-4 ideas, I wasn't entirely satisfied. Nonetheless I had to move on due to time constraints.

  • Due to certain issues I faced with my device, I was unfortunately unable to record the entire process completely. A lot of the major modifications I had made were entirely missed out in my recordings and I couldn't do much about it.

  • I should have also tried communicating my ideas with my tutors which could have helped either improve my existing ideas or help generate more ideas.

  • I could've experimented a lot further on tools and elements in my composition. I could've also tried manipulating the photograph itself instead of just the surrounding space and elements.

Strengths:

  • I was able to utilise most of the tools and techniques that I had learnt in this single composition.

  • The overall composition and colour choice captured the aesthetics I was going for.

  • I was able to go in a different direction for this project unlike my Illustrated Vector map. My map was consisted of a large number of elements and I had not focussed too deeply into aesthetics. For this project I tried to focus more on these aspects.

(Illustrated Vector Map, Scale and context final composition)

  • I was able to incorporate the real world with a fictional one in an harmonious manner.

CONCLUSION:

With daily practice and through this project, I now feel a lot more confident in Photoshop. This confidence is evident because I started using this software for my other projects as well. Below shown is an example of this:

(Creative Expression Project)

I've also realised that unlike Illustrator, my skills in Photoshop can only be improved through practice. Knowledge regarding which tool to be used and when can only be truly attained through experience. These sessions and the final Scale and Context project gave me a foundation for Photoshop and I hope to build further on this during the coming years.
