Learner's Journey Log:

Motivation gets you going and habit gets you there.

-Zig Ziglar

What were some of the victories from Term-1? Why do you consider them a victory? Annotate module(s) / Project(s) they align with.

• I was able to complete and submit all of my work. Especially in FVL1 and 2 I was able to reach up to the assigned number of drawings.

• I was also able to utilise this newly introduced concept of reflection to look back, remember and improve my work or skill.

• I was also able to overcome two of my fears; digitally presenting my work and working with materials.

What were your feelings before the submission / crit, and after you received the tutors’ feedback?

Short para 50-100 words

Before the submissions, I was quite confident because my work was complete and I was happy with most of my submissions. I also believed that I was aware of my strengths and weaknesses. However after getting the feedbacks, I understood that I had yet to realise some areas of struggles and strengths. For instance, I earlier believed that one of my weaknesses was working with materials however the feedbacks suggested otherwise. Similarly. I had thought that there was no further means to deepen my study in EOC but I was told that this could be done by setting smaller, specific briefs for myself and by using the given tools in a more refined manner.

What areas of strengths have you identified?

Mention at least one in each row. Do not add more than 3 in a row.

Optional: What helped you achieve this? How was this helpful for your work? Write a keyword/ phrase or short sentence to describe each strength.

General

Completing all the submissions and being diligent in class.

Visual Skills

Utilising digital space to visually communicate

Material Transformation

Explore and utilise variety of materials.

Design Studio

Recording and reflecting the work done in blog.

Design Environment

Usage of vast number of resources for information.

What were the key gaps in your approach during Term-1? How did this impact your learning/

FA?

Write in short bullet points. Max. 3-4 points.

Some of the key gaps during Term-1 were as follows:

Lack of interaction limited my learning.

• Difficulty was faced in creating connections or links between various concepts to attain a deeper understanding.

• Lack of further experimentation with newly introduced concepts, materials etc.

ACTION PLAN:

What

Take the initiative of responding in class and switching on the camera.

Why

This will help get rid of some unnecessary anxieties and will help in engaging more in projects.

Obstacles

Lack of confidence.

Help, support and resources

Can look for support from other students who have a similar goal.

How

Start by switching on the camera for at least a short period of time during class and progress further by increasing the time. Can also be more active during the community session.

What will success look like

Once switching on the camera becomes an habit and there is no/lesser hesitation to do the same.

What

Explore and improve in more mediums while working with DDD.

Why

This will help improve my sketching skills and will make me more flexible.

Obstacles

Lack of motivation.

Help, support and resources

Relying on LinkedIn courses, videos and practice.

How

Using multiple mediums week-wise. Each week one medium.

What will success look like

Completion of 10 drawings with each medium, minimum of 3-4 mediums.

What

Learn to establish connections with various concepts and tasks for a deeper understanding of a particular concept.

Why

To proceed beyond the surface level and attain a better understanding.

Obstacles

Lack of awareness due to low engagement, distractions.

Help, support and resources

Relying on feedbacks from tutors, discussing with peers.

How

Setting a specific brief for myself to find further information, by breaking down examples to find the interrelationships and by refining my understanding through the usage of different tools that are provided or taught.

What will success look like

Once this process becomes more habitual and I am able to do this for any project even when it is not mentioned/ required.

What

Further experimentation in projects beyond what is required.

Why

To further deepen my understanding and engagement with new concepts and tasks.

Obstacles

Lack of engagement due to distractions and time constraints.

Help, support and resources

Observing work done by peers, feedbacks from tutors.

How

Using earlier learnt tool like 5W1H, SCAMPER etc. Creating a space to note down the possibilities of experimentation for each project/ task.

What will success look like

If I can produce minimum of two successful experiments everyday.

FA CRIT MODULE-WISE REFLECTION:

MATERIAL TRANSFORMATION:

(Submission for Material Transformation Crit:)

Before the submission / crit:

  • Regarding my performance in Material Transformation module, I was satisfied with most of my submissions however, there were certain areas where I was not very happy with my performance. For example, during F2F final project, I was running out of time to complete my final model and due to this, I had to make a submission of a model that I was not fully satisfied with.

(POP final model:)

  • I was also not as confident when it came to working with materials prior to crit. However this has transformed drastically after the crits.

After crits:

  • I previously thought that one of my weaknesses was working with materials. However this was proved wrong during the crits. This has definitely helped in increasing my confidence while working with material.

  • I also learnt that one of my strengths was to experiment with large varieties of material. For instance, during the End Term project, I had used unusual materials like gelatine, badam leaf, peanuts etc, for my explorations.

(End Term Project, fruit: pomegranate)

Feed forwards received:

  • During the crits, it was brought into my notice how different my process posters were for both my final models.

(M2M process poster, F2F process poster:)

My M2M Process poster was more fun and followed a theme which added another element to my final model, and this was lacking in my F2F poster. Therefore it was recommended to me to go in this direction for my future projects.

I decided to aim for the same grade for my SA in Material Transformation Module because I wanted to focus more on some of my other modules were my grades were slightly lower and where I had to improve more upon.

ESSENCE OF COLOUR:

Before the submission / crit:

  • I was confident because I had made all my submissions and mostly on time as well.

  • There were again certain areas where I felt I could improve. For example, I felt that I was lacking depth in many of my research work and use of newly introduced research tools were limited in my work.

After crits:

  • After crits, I had much more clearer idea on where exactly I was lacking and had to improve. For example, while working in EOC-1 and 2, I mostly worked without setting any brief for myself for each task. However during the crits, It was suggested to me by my tutors to start any task with setting smaller briefs for myself. This will help in giving me a direction while working and will make my process more systematic.

  • I was also asked to focus more on my use of research tools that were introduced during the sessions

  • My engagement in discussions had to increase as well. This would help me engage more in projects.

Feed forwards:

  • As mentioned above, I was suggested ways; like setting briefs, engaging more in group discussions etc, to improve on my study and go more in-depth.

After the crits, I was more aware of my weaknesses or limitations and ways/steps to be taken to overcome them. Using these suggested techniques I hope to improve my grades slightly.

VISUAL SKILLS:

Before the submission / crit:

  • I was confident because I had managed to complete the required work on time which also included DDD.

  • However, I had missed out or was aware that I was lacking in certain aspects like for instance; in DDD, I had not utilised different mediums etc.

  • I was also aware that I was lacking in knowledge on how to use visual language effectively to communicate.

After crits:

  • After crits discussion, I started trusting myself and my work a lot more. This increased trust and gave me the confidence to explore and experiment further.

  • I was also more clearer with what I was lacking in and where I should improve. My earlier understanding of where I was lacking in was confirmed by my tutors.

Feed forwards:

  • I was asked to practice more on water colours by painting flowers.

The reason why I chose the same grade was because even though I hope to improve in areas of weakness that I earlier discussed, I was not sure whether I would be able to attain a better grade within the given short span of time. I feel like a lot of the areas that I mentioned require a long time to reach that certain level.

DESIGN STUDIO:

Before the submission / crit:

  • I was satisfied with most of my work in Design Studio. But like other modules, I was aware that I was lacking in certain areas. One such area was when it came to discussions, I had very limited participation and contribution in them.

  • There were also many areas where I was slightly proud of my work; for instance, in Think Lab reflective, End Term Project etc.

(Think Lab reflective Mind map, End-Term Project:)

After crits:

  • Crits further made me more confident with my work but most importantly increased my confidence in speaking immensely.

  • It has motivated me a lot to participate in discussions and just switching on my camera during classes.

Feed forwards:

  • I was asked to contribute and participate more in discussions because this would be necessary for later projects.
