ACTIVITY 6 : New Possibilities

INTRODUCTION:

This was a fun session where we were divided into groups and given imaginary scenarios like what if humans lay eggs or what if humans had horns etc. We then had to think of how different the different aspects of life would be in this parallel universe.

MAIN ACTIVITY:

For the main activity our group received the scenario; What if humans had only one eye. We then had to imagine and represent how different life would be. Most of the aspects that we looked into revolved around activities that were mainly focussed on sight and appearance. For example, we looked into how different sports would be to compromise for the problems related to vision or how having two eyes would be considered as a disability and this can sometimes lead to bullying based on appearance etc. The final submission was presented in the form of a mind map.

Our final submission:

(The different points are highlighted in different colour to indicate who introduced that point. My points are highlighted in yellow colour.)

FINAL REFLECTION:

This activity was very different from the other activities that we did in the earlier Think Lab sessions. It definitely tested my imagination skills and helped me to thinking beyond.

Certain aspects that we changed or we could have changed are as follows:

  • Lot of the aspects that we looked into in the initial stages were mostly related to the scientific aspects related to having just one eye.

  • We were often also comparing the life of a human having one with a human having two eyes which we could have been avoided.

  • We could have also explored further on how different the social life, beliefs etc would be.

  • More images could have also been included.

LEARNING MANTRA: Never be afraid to take the leap and imagine something bizarre.
